If you’re reading this, lucky you! It means that the DNS change went through, and you are now viewing Seattle Bubble on its brand new host, Host Gator.
Yesterday our old host Dreamhost decided to move the site to a different internal server with no warning, consequently taking it entirely offline and resulting in “bad_httpd_conf” errors for hours. This was just the delicious frosting on the multi-layered cake of downtime and outages that they have so lovingly baked over the last few months. Luckily, I already had a new host lined up. All I had to do was copy over the database and the files, update the DNS, and bam, we’re back in business.
…well, almost. The forum is still down at the moment. I’m working on that and hope to have it back up and running as soon as possible. Please let me know if you discover anything else that isn’t operating as expected.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled housing bubble deflation. Have a nice day.
Update: Forums are now back up as well.

I figured the web page shutdown was due to a preemptive hacker strike by the Positive Thinkers. Or maybe the Chinese (they still have a lot of CDOs to unload)…

the funny thing about the inventory count is that I thought of it this morning while I was getting ready to work, then I sat down at the computer and saw the above comment from anon. I am working on fixing it. Right now I’m manually running the update job on the hour. I hope to have it running automatically before the end of the day.

I couldn’t access seattlebubble.com all day yesterday, so this morning I googled Seattle Bubble, found your old site on Blogspot, which redirected to seattlebubble.com/blog.
I don’t know if this info is helpful, but I was glad to find it!

You had me all freaked-out The Tim… I couldn’t get my fix!
Thanks for sharing the name of your old host. I usually shop around for hosts once a year or so and it’s good to know the ones that are sub-par, in order to avoid. Cheers!

Tim, not having access to your blog does strange things to people. I’m a little ashamed to admit it, but I visited Larry Cragun’s site yesterday (the undressed one). I couldn’t even help but make a comment on one of his threads. I then (gasp) engaged in a discussion on RCG that Mr. Losh was contributing to.
I need help.

So, dreamhost giving you grief too, eh?
I set a client up with them after leaving my previous job, when I had to take down the server I had set up there just for their use. They have done nothing but complain to me since then. Personally, I have noticed a fair amount of problems, usually due to (apparently) overloaded server farms. I host my personal sites there, too, and it’s just dirt slow a lot of the time.
On the other hand… lots of disk space, and a shell account. Many shell accounts, actually. My gut feeling is that they are experiencing growing pains. I can handle that, as it’s not something I depend on (unlike this site!).
My client, however, is moving off there as soon as I get him set up elsewhere.

I figured the NAR had recently gotten serious. They saw the CS report on Seattle and Portland and realized the gig was up. So they hired a team of hackers to take down any sites which might be the cause of a housing crash.
What they didn’t count on is that Tim has a black belt in dispatching hackers.

If you continue to have problems, I can heartily recommend godaddy. I have a couple of websites there, and the hosting is great. I’m not as high on their “Website Tonight” service, but if you’ve created your own site there’s no need to use it.
