Canada. Definitely Canada. British Columbia … or maybe Quebec…. I’d just have to go away for a couple weeks in the winter to somewhere warm :).

definitely Europe, if you do not mind crowds,
i have not experience more boring eventless life than in Pacific NW.

I still just don’t understand why so many people would want to live in California.

Is it the sun or the silicone? ;)

There are many people in California who wonder why anyone would even want to live in Washington.

My answer would be a bit different if it weren’t cloudy and 45 degrees outside.

It’s the sample bias.

Ask a group of people who mostly live in Seattle where they’d like to live, and it shouldn’t be surprising when you get back a response that says they’d mostly like to live on the west coast.

It’s perhaps a tiny bit interesting that California makes such a strong showing, but not when you consider that a lot of Seattlites live here because it’s perceived as “San Francisco North”…

Is it the sun or the silicone? ;)

probably depends on which gender you ask ;)

I’ve lived in Seattle for over ten years and certainly don’t consider it “San Francisco North”. There are certainly similarities (hi-tech, liberal politics, weather, salt water, high percentages of people with higher education, and large percentages of sexual deviants (joking!)), but there are considerable differences as well: mountains & trees in the PNW, a more prevalent local music (and art?) scene, more distinct neighborhoods, and more pale skin and Vitamin D deficiencies up here.

But now, after thinking and laying out those things above, I guess I can understand your reasoning, Mister Bubble.

Still, I do have to add that perhaps San Francisco is really becoming more of a “Seattle South” rather than the other way around. ;)

If money were no object I’d have a place in Manhattan I’d spend a month in spring and a month in the winter at. Summer home would be in Seattle. Primary winter residence in Hawaii or possibly Costa Rica.

In defense of those who voted California, I almost did as well, based on the caveat “money was no object,” which suddenly makes a 2000acre ranch near Santa Barbara an option (last one I saw was asking $49M). I do live in CA, but I voted tropical island. I would actually choose a subtropical island, but that’s missing from the list, and intent is 9/10 of the vote, right?

Northwest Arkansas. A big old Victorian in Eureka Springs, one of the oddest (and coolest) places in the US.
The only place in Arkansas where they voted to decriminalize pot and where they have a “domestic partnership” registry for gay and lesbian couples.
In the Ozarks, with lots of lakes, hippies, artists, writers, bikers, UFOlogists, and a 70 foot tall statue of Jesus which looks like Gumby.

If money was not an issue, I would start buying a lot real estate in King County… Just kidding!

But really, summer in Seattle and Winter in South America someplace would be really cool…

I’ve made a handy toolbar for us Bubble Watchers. It tracks the Blogs, RSS and great sites on what we all know is coming at us. Plus you can “chat” (or otherwise) at RE people and let them know what you think! You can grab it at:

I take my earlier response back. I’d buy a huge spread outside of Whistler and put a massive heated wavepool in the backyard. Snowboard by day, surf by night (because I’d have some ridiculous stadium lighting over the pool). kthxbye.

Cabin in the woods, away from the metro. I love the PNW, rain and all, so I’d probably stay here. But I’d spend a lot of time travelling as well. I could see spending a lot of time in New Zealand.

Canada is totally out, because then I would have to be polite, clever, and and also follow the rules ;)

There are definitely 2 different states of California. Wish there was a choice for anywhere up and down the Pacific from where the coast redwoods grow to where the redcedar rise. My vote is for Greater Cascadia, even if it is a country of the mind kinda like the State of Jefferson. It’s interesting only a quarter of the votes are for the PNW, even though the blog is all about Seattle… the ponies must feel a bit slighted.

I love the Pac NW so given my current income and lifestyle, I would never choose anywhere else in the US.

However, if money was no issue I would settle for a nice spread in Provence, France, a cliff side spread on the Amalfi coast, Italy and an understated mansion in Pacific Heights in San Frnacisco.

This place is home. The Mountains, the Sound, the City, oh yeah and my family lives here too. If money was no object I might purchase some new real estate, like a nice penthouse in downtown Seattle. But I would stay here for sure.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I view Seattle as the best compromise for my wants in the US. Since I can’t afford to live more than one place, I chose Seattle, but if money were no object, I can think of many great places to spend part of the year…
