RE: softwarengineer @ 1 – I assume the new law will be a little different from CA’s medical marijuana law, in that you do not need to be a resident of WA to take advantage. And of course, this is legalization, which the medical marijuana law is not.

Part of the Seattle Police Department’s webpage on marijuana use in light of legalization is funny!

    http://spdblotter.seattle.gov/2012/11/09/marijwhatnow-a-guide-to-legal-marijuana-use-in-seattle/

    Excerpts:

Can I legally carry around an ounce of marijuana?

According to the recently passed initiative, beginning December 6th, adults over the age of 21 will be able to carry up to an ounce of marijuana for personal use. . . . Also, you probably shouldn’t bring pot with you to the federal courthouse (or any other federal property).

Will police officers be able to smoke marijuana?
As of right now, no. This is still a very complicated issue.

SPD seized a bunch of my marijuana before I-502 passed. Can I have it back?
    No.

December 6th seems like a really long ways away. What happens if I get caught with marijuana before then?

Hold your breath. Your case will be processed under current state statute. However, there is already a city statute making marijuana enforcement the lowest law enforcement priority.

And then there’s the interesting part:

Will SPD assist federal law enforcement in investigations of marijuana users or marijuana-related businesses, which are legal, at the state level, under I-502?

No. Officers and detectives will not participate in an investigation of anything that’s allowed by state law.

It very well might be a way to bring revenue and jobs to depressed cities and neighborhoods, if the Feds allow it. Skyway could become a destination for marijuana tourism, with snack bars opening nearby.

RE: Ira Sacharoff @ 5 – That “Skyway could become a destination for marijuana tourism” shows you to be “one toke over the line sweet Jesus” or more on that hallucination.

Ha! Well ,Leavenworth transformed into Little Bavaria, maybe Skyway could transform into Little Haight Ashbury.

This is a million dollar idea. Find some impoverished neighborhood or town in ths state, and transform it into a “1960’s re-enactment theme park” area complete with real marijuana. Store owners would be requrired to dress in tie dye and bell bottoms. After receiving the tourists money for pot and tea shirts and a meal, store clerks would be required to say ” Groovy, man.” And they’d have to play schlocky 60’s music, bands like The Archies ,and The Association, no Jefferson Airplane or Bob Dylan.
