Interesting news about the Fed transcripts recently released for 2007.

RE: Kary L. Krismer @ 1 – That one is stuck behind a paywall, it seems, but an interesting story from whatever source you read it. I’ll be even more interested to see the 2008 transcripts…

    Ok, things are getting ugly.

Short Sale that we were considering just taking a look at. Was pending for 7 months, recently relisted. To me that means that it has a slim chance of closing in the near future.

On the market for 10 days, 5 offers, one above “asking”

    That is desperation.

The pending for 7 months isn’t a good sign, but at some point the property may get to be near a foreclosure date, and that can lead to a decision being made by the bank.

Think of it as being like one of those people who watch someone pump a ton of money into a slot machine, and then go play the machine if it hadn’t paid off for the first person.

That said, please don’t take this as in indication bidding on a short sale is a good thing. It is for some people, but not most people.

If HBSC execs were found to be running a child porn ring, would they go to jail?

If you were to use the bogus rationale of that disgusting hemmorhoid Lanny Breuer, the answer would be “No,” as jailing criminals would somehow magically destabilize the financial sector.

    Obama sucks.

Here’s an interesting excerpt from Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Drum Major Instinct” sermon (emphasis mine):

Now the economists also say that your house shouldn’t cost—if you’re buying a house, it shouldn’t cost more than twice your income. That’s based on the economy and how you would make ends meet. So, if you have an income of five thousand dollars, it’s kind of difficult in this society. But say it’s a family with an income of ten thousand dollars, the house shouldn’t cost much more than twenty thousand. Well, I’ve seen folk making ten thousand dollars, living in a forty- and fifty-thousand-dollar house. And you know they just barely make it. They get a check every month somewhere, and they owe all of that out before it comes in. Never have anything to put away for rainy days.

And the other thing is that it causes one to engage ultimately in activities that are merely used to get attention. Criminologists tell us that some people are driven to crime because of this drum major instinct. They don’t feel that they are getting enough attention through the normal channels of social behavior, and so they turn to anti-social behavior in order to get attention, in order to feel important. (Yeah) And so they get that gun, and before they know it they robbed a bank in a quest for recognition, in a quest for importance.

I’ve never been a religious man, and I’ve often thought of sermons as self-righteous baloney, excuses to fear/hate monger. I’ve often thought of MLK Day as a self-serving political pandering holiday. But this speech is so timeless that it could have been written today. It is filled with such insight on human character that it fills me with enormous respect for Dr. King, and I can’t find any ideals set forth in it that any right-thinking man could disagree with.
