And in other news of concern to most Americans:

    Dear Carolyn:

My husband eats lunch with his co-workers every day. I joined them out recently and one of his single, female co-workers began eating off his plate. When I noticed it, she snatched back her hand.

My husband is pretty familiar with his co-workers, but I’m pretty sure he would be livid that a single, male co-worker was eating off my plate, especially if it appeared to be a habit.

So we are seeing what we are made of as Americans and not liking it. Hence, the malaise and disgust with our “leadership.” The party must be made to continue, and someone else must pick up the bill. Even attacking pipsqueak countries doesn’t do it anymore. What happens when consumption no longer does it for the average American?

RE: Blurtman @ 2 – And be sure to follow the daily soap opera “As Detroit Implodes.” The governor just announced his decision to appoint an Emergency Financial Manager (EFM), and the Detroit City Clowncil is going to fight him tooth and nail. Personally, I think the best approach would be skipping the EFM completely, do not collect $200, and going right to municipal bankruptcy. Let the judge decide!

The scary thing is that Detroit is a microcosm of our country. There is no way that the City of Detroit can ever pay back what they owe, and sadly, most Detroiters feel that they are the ones who are owed much.

RE: redmondjp @ 3 – Interviews with J6P folks about the sequester cuts:

    - Teen Mom glad she squeaked through to get the Title 9 housing voucher

    - Single dad with two teen daughters complaining that the cuts to his unemployment check would take food off their table

    - Average citizens complaining about the Blue Angels absence at Sea Fair.

Underscoring all – a childlike sense of entitlement and belief that the money must come from somewhere.

Not only did you lose a bet about the election but you also said a few years ago that the economy would collapse. I am the one that should refuse to acknowledge you.

RE: Blurtman @ 9 – Blurty, Was this country done when folks felt they needed to get the things they want by taking 100% of another’s labor (slavery)? Or felt the answer was to move or murder them, (small pox blankets, trail of tears, and Indian wars)? You feel that these are comparable to a short term extension of temporary unemployment benefits? I notice you forgot to mention free education for blurtman.

Is the lack of historical perspective is exceeded only by the lack of a sense of proportion?

like I said, these people are tax payers. when they had a good job they were probably paying more taxes than mitt romney and most so-called job creators.

so much hate. why are you kicking people when they are down? why do you tell us how bad the economy is continually yet trash people whom are a victim of it?

so much hate. people are doing the best they can.

By the way the countries with a very high standard of living all have high tax rates and a very strong social safety net.

Themselves? You mean printing, or minting currency? Do you mean gold miners?

What do you mean? Job holders? Because job holders are also dependents. Maybe you mean business owners who also depend on other safety neets within the commerce system?

    What do you actually mean?

RE: whatsmyname @ 10 – Blurtman has attended private parochial school and college. So no free education. Blurtman did receive an MBA from UC Berkeley, paid “fees” but no tuition. Took out student loans, and repaid them. Blurtman’s dad never attended high school and worked as a factory laborer for his whole life.

The USA is a nation composed significantly of people of Germanic and Irish descent (25% of population by ancestry). The Germans and Irish largely migrated in the mid-1850′s. They weren’t slave owners, nor killers of Native Americans. They had no social safety nets, and worked crap jobs to make a better life for their children. They valued self suficiency and felt shame to receive handouts.

From your comments, you seem to be a racist, in that you generalize behaviours to a group of people based upon the actions of an unrelated minority of people. Like most Americans, Blurtman’s grandparents did not own slaves and did not kill Native Americans. They worked hard, sacrificed greatly, and received no handouts, and this is what made America great.

RE: Blurtman @ 17 – Foul ball -Like blurtman, whatsmyname also attended parochial schools, so he is aware that while tuition is charged, the cost of this parochial education was subsidized through the church, which guilt tripped others in the congregation to benefit his moocher ass. He also knows that he traversed streets to get to school. Streets which someone paid to lay out and pave before his moocher parents were born. He has benefitted his whole life from technologies and infrastructure (including social infrastructure) which cost others dearly, and for which he still has not paid. Whatsmyname did fully pay the loans he took out to get an MBA at a Private University, affiliated with, and subsidized by a faith he and his family has never supported at all – but not by the poor prisoner-citizens of California.

Strike 2 – WMN is not exploring racism or any kind of group blame for slavery or indian killing; WMN is merely pointing out that America survived these extraordinary examples of selfishness without being “done”, as you put it. WMN does not believe that a limited extension of a temporary unemployment stint is more America-killing than the other examples he provides. In fact, wmn considers it much less so.

Strike 3- WMN also had ancestors in the 1850′s who faced a hard life free of safety nets. WMN has never thought it a benefit or moral imperative to replicate this lifestyle, anymore than his 1850′s ancestors pined to recreate a plague ridden medieval village. He does not believe that his ancestors would say surviving those times was either extraordinary or American Exceptionalism.

WMN suspects that you haven’t contributed to the ballpark. But, here – you’ve had your three swings.

RE: whatsmyname @ 18 – I will assume that you posted 10 without thinking. Are you saying that receiving extended unemployment benefits is selfishness? If a country takes land, and vanquishes the original inhabitants, how could the country do anything but survive that? Of course it will survive that, it will become a much bigger country with more natural resources. The Native Americans, on the other hand, did not survive well. To equate that with a non-worker expecting unemployment income is bizarre. It would have been a little more logical to compare the vanquished Native American living on the reservation with the unemployed expectant, but just barely.

You are also equating an allegedly subsidized education with a free education. Better to admit you are wrong than to continue digging.

Before you attempt to call balls and strikes, perhaps you might stop in to see your optometrist.
