Yes, Ballard and Aurora have high crime rates, that's very true.

Let me point out that I was specific about gang activity related to the graffiti. Youthful exuberance is one thing, but desperation is another.

As time goes on I think you will see more foreclosures in the South end of Seattle. Many speculators are stuck. Some people paid way too much for properties with the idea that Light Rail would be an economic boost to the area. Anticipation is always more marketable than the reality.

As the air port grows, so will the traffic. The air port is a significant Port facility. I don't follow the Third Runway debate any more since I moved out of a flight path, but it's significant.

When I lived there Beacon Hill seemed to me to have gotten the criminally short end of the stick in terms of bus transit, especially considering that lower-income people are who you'd think bus transit is supposed to serve. The 36 was often jam-packed SRO even at off hours of the day -- sometimes there was no room on an already crowded bus for people who'd been waiting at a bus stop -- and the 60 is just perverse. It will be nice to have light rail, this is true, but Beacon Hill is vast, and from the place where I lived, the long walk to the nearest station would be impractical as one's go-to transit method.

I like Beacon Hill too and it's on our shortlist, but if we end up there I expect to be riding my bike a lot more.
