Anybody else here watch the TV show Scrubs? In an episode that aired a few weeks ago ("My Inconvenient Truth," from the current season, which can be viewed in full at the moment), the plot revolved around J.D.'s life being a mess, while his brother Dan finally has it together, and has become successful and relatively well-off.
The part that I thought was especially funny was when Dan explains the source of his new success: "I flip houses."
I don't know if the writers meant it as a joke, since there's pretty much no place in the country that you can "flip" houses for easy money anymore (), or if they're just seriously out of touch with current events.

"Scrubs" character flipping houses

You know when some new trend is featured on TV Sitcoms, that it's really over!
On the first or second episode of the new show Carpoolers, the (RE agent) wife of one character flipped a house (all by telephone) - two times!
The funny thing is, we just got cable (wife wanted it), and I have been watching all of these flipping shows on TLC and HGTV, and based upon the prices I am guessing that a lot of the shows were filmed 2-3 years ago. One recent episode had a guy who bought a plain-vanilla 1300 sf rambler with no view for $675K or so, and flipped it for almost $1M! It's, well, just plain unbelievable. Some of the people doing the flips are complete idiots too (thinking they can completely refurb both the interior and exterior of a house as well as add a new room onto the house for $16K--ha ha ha!).

On last Sunday's episode of Family Guy, Stewie and Brian flip a house together.
