What is that I see on the lower right? Railroad bubble! Ha ha!

There was also a radio bubble much like the internet bubble. In fact I heard a story on NPR about the radio bubble just before the internet bubble burst.

"Radio Flyer" was named after the hot, hot business sectors of radio and airplanes. It was a children's toy wagon.

Sort of like how the iCup is a coffee maker that has nothing to do with the internet.

I was reading a blog the other day, and ran across a compilation of . If I hadn't lived through it, I'd find it hard to believe that people ever thought that way. But they did, and they do - we see them here every day.

What gets me is that all it takes to avoid this stuff is a little sense and a healthy attitude towards money. You just need to have a good idea what money's worth, and look to earn it working at something genuinely worthwhile. That's pretty common sense, isn't it? If you're not actually producing something valuable, then no matter how much money you get, you're not really making it, you're taking it from someone else--and sooner or later you're going to lose that game.

Why is that so hard? That's all it takes for the whole host of New Economies and Special Cities and schemes and scams and It's Different This Time stories to come across as so much hogwash.

And yet we do it again and again. History shows it. We really are a hard-headed race, aren't we?
