I didn't even know what Soylent Green was so I looked it up -

Soylent Green is a 1973 dystopian science fiction movie depicting a bleak future in which overpopulation, global warming, and the resulting severe damage to the environment have led to widespread unemployment and poverty. Real fruit, vegetables, and meat are rare, expensive commodities, and much of the population survives on processed food rations, including "soylent green" wafers.

There is a very famous phrase at the end of that movie. Everyone here should do their part not to spoil it until Cougar has watched the movie.

Heh, my wife hasn't seen it either, so every time we're watching something and they make a reference to that famous line, I quickly move to cover her ears so as not to spoil the surprise. I obtained the movie a while ago, I just have to make time to get her to watch it.

There is nothing special about the wafers being green. They had soylent red, blue, yellow and many others. There was something special about soylent green, but it had nothing to do with the color.

Soylent sounds like an imitation form of soy protein and it is what you get when the world soy production cannot keep up with demand.

By the way, does anyone know of any books that describe all of the bees dieing so that crops can't be pollinated?

Better solution (at least for the industrialized world):

Instead of retiring, we have ritual suicide. Once you're done working, you off yourself in the manner of your choosing. Gets rid of the hordes of unproductive people who make our healthcare expensive, massive population reduction, no more silly savings programs, no more social security (tax cut!)...
