Help me clarify if I should buy in Everett side

Hi, since I am single, high income, my goal is to buy a house with a mother-in-law so that a relative or co-worker could live there and if I make about $1000/month plus tax benefits that would be really good. It has been very difficult to find the criteria I want 1)houses newer than 2005 2)in Mukilteo 3)with the mother-in-law layout and diverse entry 4)up to $840k.

Then I finally found the perfect house but it is located in the Everett side at Mukilteo Blvd. House is by the park Harborview.

Question:
I am in doubt whether I should buy a house in Everett. House price is already discounted to reflect fact house is in the Everett school district. House has a nice view to the ocean and recent construction. Perfect layout to my purposes. So it is really psychological I think the fact it bothers me house is in Everett.

Please let me your thoughts about that and your rationale and thinking criteria to help decide on whether I should accept it or keep looking only in Mukilteo which is the town I really like.

  • No answers on this. My question is, how bad is Everett (by Mukilteo Blvd borders with Everett) perceived? Is that perceived as a bad neighborhood? For example, in the Eastside I am familiar with Bellevue - Renton and typically people who can afford always wants to avoid Renton. Is that the same in Everett?
  • I am not that familiar with the neighborhood you are talking about specifically. But basically you can look at the neighborhood. If it is good then you are good to go. The house is already discounted for the address, and that discount will continue when you go to sell.

I've lived (and been a landlord) in Renton for the past 25 years. Yes, there are more neighborhoods to avoid in Renton than lily-white Bellevue. But it is not a city to be avoided.
  • I work just north of Everett in Marysville and specialize in all snohomish county and to be honest Everett gets a bad rap, but it is up and coming. They are completely re-doing the waterfront marina, and Mukilteo has one of the best school districts in the state. There are many options for food, night-life might not be the best, but overall it's a pretty solid area to live and buy. Plus, it's not Seattle prices right now, but the market is really good and there are great deals out there to be had.

Give me a shout if you have any questions. You can look me up on FB if you need contact info.
  • Yes, if the property is still available you should buy. Everett gets a very bad rap but many things are happening around town. I brought in North Everett in August 2011 and don't regret it at all. It's interesting seeing neighborhood home that are smaller go for more than I paid. Houses are being purchased and flipped, even the boarded up houses. High Fives to anyone who brought in Everett in that timeframe! You know who you are. Down there by Mukilteo Blvd is very nice. Everett has a few neighborhoods that have some very nice homes.
