Looking for help...

Hello, Everyone,

I'm new here, found the link when on another housing blog.

I live in Florida (another crashing housing market) but my daughter is in Seattle.

I wanted to ask the board for some possible help.

They are turning my daughters apartment unto Condos and she has to leave within 60 days. She has been paying $950, which is reasonable from what she tells me for Seattle, (here in Panama City $950 would get you a nice 3 Bed 2 bath home in a nice area.. Ha).

Anyway, she has a few special considerations to take into account. She was hurt last year in a shooting there in Seattle and has trouble walking, she can drive (with a modified car) and make her way up a small level of steps but not much. She can't walk very far. She is quite, not a partier and has two pets, a dog and a cat. She plans on starting full time college this winter to get her Masters degree.

She would like a small apartment or maybe something like a granny cottage that is part of a house. She doesn't like the big apartment complexes preferring a quite neighborhood.

She can afford up to around $1000/month maybe a little more but maybe not depending on how much the university costs are. My wife and I would pay any deposits required and be willing to sign any agreement to ensure the owners/renters security and property.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Regards

Vernon Bush (no relation thank God)

  • Sorry...not enough info.

What school? There are many up here and they are all in different areas.

    She's spending $950? On what? A 2BR with a roommate? A studio/1BR by herself?

You say she has 60 days to find a place. It sounds like there is plenty of time to look on Craigslist and find something perfectly acceptable that would fit her needs and circumstances. Tell her to start looking now and not wait until the last minute.
  • Hi,

She is starting at Seattle University.

She was going to be checking Criegs list as there is alot on there but I like to spread out more in my search (old school I guess) cause you never know where an opportunity or lucky find will turn up.

Her apartment now is 2 bedroom 1 bath in Fremont. Shes expecting to have to step down cause she can only afford around $1K/month and says finding a nice 2 bedroom 1 bath for that is difficult.

In 60 days we should be able to find something though I would think... just wondering of a query here might lead to anything... I'll be coming home to Florida soon and will be coming up to help her move.

As a side item of interest. I'm overseas now.. Military work... Something is in the air... Rumor is Iran attack (dumb bastards!)

    take care

    Vernon
  • Yeah, Shes a big Craigslist fan.

I'm more a believer of checking the nooks and crannies to find something unexpected... Old school attitude I guess.

Thanx for pointing that out though.

  • I think craigslist will be her best bet. I'm sure she'll be able to find what she's looking for in that amount of time, especially in the area to the east of Seattle U. Between 14th and 23rd ave there are some very reasonable rentals, and the area has changed a lot in the past few years.
