I rather liked the simplicity of this new visualization, so I decided to clean it up a bit more and post another version here:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 5px auto; width: 600px; font-size: 0.8em; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Case-Shiller-Cities-MoM.png\" title=\"Case-Shiller Home Price Index: # of Cities Experiencing MoM Gains, Losses\" rel=\"lightbox[17569]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Case-Shiller-Cities-MoM-600x435.png\" style=\"border: 0;\" title=\"Case-Shiller Home Price Index: # of Cities Experiencing MoM Gains, Losses - Click to enlarge\" alt=\"Case-Shiller Home Price Index: # of Cities Experiencing MoM Gains, Losses\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve left out 2000 through 2004 on this chart, since those years all look pretty much the same as 2005, but you can <a href=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Case-Shiller-Cities-MoM-wide.png\" title=\"Case-Shiller Home Price Index: # of Cities Experiencing MoM Gains, Losses\" rel=\"lightbox[17569]\">view a full chart of 2000 through August 2011 here<\/a>.  In the more &#8220;normal&#8221; years before the bubble started to bust, most cities stayed month-over-month positive through the fall.<\/p>\n<p>Ordinarily, the number of cities in negative territory doesn&#8217;t start to pile up until November or December.
