First up, the Notice of Trustee Sale summary:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">April 2009<\/span><br \/>\nKing: 938 NTS, up 72% YOY<br \/>\nSnohomish: 483 NTS, up 90% YOY<br \/>\nPierce: 652 NTS, up 48% YOY<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a simple look at how April&#8217;s foreclosures compare to the same month last year in each of the three counties:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 5px auto; width: 600px; font-size: 0.8em; text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Notices of Trustee Sale\" href=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/not-yoy_2009-04.png\" rel=\"lightbox[5539]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0; margin: 5px;\" title=\"Notices of Trustee Sale - Click to enlarge\" src=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/not-yoy_2009-04-600x435.png\" alt=\"Notices of Trustee Sale\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next let&#8217;s look at the percentage of households that received a Notice of Trustee Sale (based on household data for each county from the <a href=\"http:\/\/factfinder.census.gov\/servlet\/ACSSAFFFacts?_submenuId=factsheet_0&#038;_sse=on\" title=\"American Community Survey\">American Community Survey<\/a>, assuming linear household growth between surveys):<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 5px auto; width: 600px; font-size: 0.8em; text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Households per Foreclosure\" href=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/not-households-pct_2009-04.png\" rel=\"lightbox[5539]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0; margin: 5px;\" title=\"Households per Foreclosure - Click to enlarge\" src=\"http:\/\/seattlebubble.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/not-households-pct_2009-04-600x435.png\" alt=\"Households per Foreclosure\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>King County came in at 1 NTS per 836 households, Snohomish County had 1 NTS per 543 households, and Pierce had 1 NTS for every 455 households (higher is better).<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realtytrac.com\/ContentManagement\/PressRelease.aspx?channelid=9&#038;ItemID=6379\" title=\"FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY REMAINS AT RECORD LEVELS IN APRIL\">foreclosure tracking company RealtyTrac<\/a>, Washington&#8217;s statewide foreclosure rate of one foreclosure for every 817 households was 27th worst among the 50 states and the District of Columbia (down from 18th last month).  This was also better than the national average of 374 households per foreclosure.  Note that RealtyTrac&#8217;s definition of &#8220;in foreclosure&#8221; is much broader than what we are using.<\/p>\n<p>Following are charts of King, Pierce, and Snohomish County foreclosures from January 2000 through April 2009, with uniform y-axis scales to provide easier comparison.
