Craigslist data miner....

I have built a craiglist data miner for my personal use. It goes out, downloads and parses all rental information for seattle.

I own a duplex so I use it to answer questions like: How much should i charge? What are others charging? What do their places look like? etc etc...

Im a bit of an entreprenuer. Anyone have any other ideas? I know I can't use this to make money as it is against Craiglist's terms of use policy. In fact, i wrote him and asked him. and he said no. :(

Could you mash it with Google maps to generate average rents for an area, or possible a heat map?

Also, in my experience several years ago, many of the Craigslist rentals were priced on the high side. A large part of my search was on foot looking for unadvertised rental properties in neighborhoods I wanted to live in. The rates tended to be less- in some cases by a few hundred dollars. (which leads me to another topic...)

It would be neat if you could include rental prices from other sources as well.
  • that already kind of exists

In my search, I noticed that the properties I thought were priced about right tended to disappear within 48 hours... the ones that got reposted week and in week out tended to be severely overpriced.
