Gahhh! The spam is killing me!

Holy cow, I had to delete like half a dozen accounts this weekend, responsible for flooding the forums with 50+ spam messages!

Anybody know of a good anti-spam tool/mod for phpbb3? I've got one I'm going to try when I get my PC back up and running, but if anybody out there has any particular suggestions I'm open to trying just about anything to stem the tide here.

  • Most of the solutions I know of are at the registration level - I.E. adding a human element to getting a new account. This can be as simple as a CAPTCHA or requiring all users to be individually verified by an admin/moderator type person.

Also, it doesn't seem like LHR is on very often anymore, and synthetik hasn't signed on since April. Another set of eyeballs can help nip the bud.
  • I haven't been around much lately and I deleted quite a bit when I was on more. I'd recommend using CAPTCHA if you can find a way to incorporate that into the site.
  • I read somewhere that some people put in a form field and then hid it from users. Anybody that filled out the field out the field when registering or posting must be a bot.
  • The spam bots attack again!

Always early in the morning... they must realize nobody in Seattle gets up early.
