Thanking your congress-person
I just wanted to suggest to everybody on this forum, that - if your congress-person voted against the bailout - now would be an excellent time to write them a letter of thanks.
It's good to write with how angry you are over the bailout vote, but it's even better to write back and say how thankful you are that it didn't pass. This type of encouragement will help steel the resolve of those congress-persons who are trustworthy and ethical. After all, a pat on the head is usually more successful than a spanking.

Thank them for destroying the financial system?
You're right. The financial systems were so completely destroyed that today the DOW had its third highest gain ever. Investors are spooked! Oooh <wiggles fingers ominously>
Chuck is right, if the financial systems are destroyed, it has happened over the last 20 years, and no $1T bailout can change that. It's simply not enough money if the markets are truly toast. If they aren't toast, then why are we bailing them out. Ipso-facto, I thanked Reichart today for doing the right thing.
BTW, if your congress-person did vote for the bailout, now will be an especially good time to drive home just how disappointed in them you are. Not only did their pet bill fail, but explain how this vote will impact your vote in November. It's one thing for voters to complain, but to have proof that you are watching their vote in this case is especially meaningful.
Of course, something might get passed after the election...but hopefully that buys enough time that at least people stop believing in a bailout.
Does Congress (or the President) really do anything between election day and the middle of January? Could a bunch of lame ducks pass a bill after knowing the outcome of the election? I would think that any GOP seat that was lost would vote for a bailout (since they're no longer accountable for it), and Democrats would be more in favor of it since it'd be long forgotten before the next election.
Thoughts?
