Wait...I'm confused again. You don't seem to care about reports of voter intimidation against blacks, only when the blacks are doing the intimidating...

Also, you made it clear above that McCain is going to win Pennsylvania with at least 104% of the votes, so why do these reports even matter?

And what's with using the past tense?

I joke around here, but if Obama had won this, there is no doubt in my mind that it would have been a rush to the end of the US as we know it.

There's also a tense change in this sentence...maybe your head is so frazzled with fear that a black man is likely going to be president in January that it's getting harder to maintain your reality dissonance zone.

Because what is in that video should matter deeply to any American who is a student of history and the principles on which this nation was founded. What I saw in that video was absolutely repulsive.

FWIW, as it makes the rounds, some percentage of "independents" on the west coast will be pushed to McCain by that video. Although it was in color, it is just too reminiscent of so many fascist regimes of past and present.

It has little to do with who wins.

Let me summarize for anyone who hasn't seen the videos. At one poll in Philly, two black men (one held a nightstick) were standing in front of the poll entrance looking a little bit intimidating for a little over an hour before the police escorted them out of the area. Meanwhile, several white people can be seen behind them talking on cell phones or waiting for rides and looking completely comfortable.

Yep, sounds like a fascist regime! I agree that what those two were up to was unethical and reprehensible. But Robroy, how can you act like this is proof the world is ending while ignoring fliers circulated in Virginia to trick democratic voters missing election day? It's hypocritical to act like these two guys represent some totalitarian government while ignoring the widespread claims of voter intimidation in Ohio in 2004. And it's myopic and foolish to pronounce bold and unprecedented public reaction when similar behavior in the past has had little effect.

Polls close in Indiana at 3:004:00 PST (I think), we'll see then whether or not this election will be a blowout or whether it will be competitive. If Obama wins Indiana, McCain has already lost. If it's close, then you can probably call the election at that point as well, considering that Bush won Indiana by some 20 points.

Until then, see if you can find one or two more anecdotes to terrify yourself with while ignoring anything Fox News wouldn't play, Robroy.

I wonder of those "white" people were obama supporters.
People can also watch the video themself and make up their own mind.

I consider those flyers to be a "stupid" test. Not intimidation.

Never substantiated. You see, I am one of those who believes that Bush won Florida IN SPITE OF massive democrate voter fraud. And don't even get me started about Wisconsin...

Until then, see if you can find one or two more anecdotes to terrify yourself with while ignoring anything Fox News wouldn't play, Robroy.
I'm not terrified, but at least my anecdotes are not just BFCs.

Actually, pick either one and use the tab above the image to switch to the other.
  • Early results from Indiana coming in. I don't really think McCain will lose this state, but that it's even close... does not bode well for McCain. Some of these counties are as conservative as you can possibly imagine - rural, mostly farming, strongly religious, high gun ownership - and they're 50/50 or favoring Obama.

And, more succinctly, he's outperforming Kerry by as much as 15%.

    Yikes.
  • And, more succinctly, he's outperforming Kerry by as much as 15%.

Agreed. I'm curious what this will end up meaning for Pennsylvania and Ohio. How does McCain take those states if Indiana which is demographically similar but less urban ends up being essentially a toss-up?
  • Listening to NPR, and it sounds like Obama is winning rural Virginia even. This election might be over by about 6pm.
  • I'm using Yahoo's map and it has McCain up by double digits in VA, but with only 6% reporting. That may not seem like much, but they called Vermont for Obama with 0% reporting. That always seems odd to me.
  • Seems like the big 4 networks are racing to see who can call states the soonest after voting closes (CBS is "winning").

Based on NYTime's map, that seems extremely optimistic... or just plain wrong.

It depends a lot on which areas have reported already and what the exit polls are doing. If you have exit polls that suggest the state is close, but that early reporting districts are heavily red/blue, you have to wait until more representative numbers start to come in.

Also, ABC is calling Pennsylvania. Obama has now all but won the election. Robroy, start cooking your crow! :x
  • Yahoo doesn't seem to say how they are calling states. CNN says they use exit polls -- did no one learn their lesson with exit polls last time?
  • Yahoo seems pretty conservative in their declarations, which is good IMO. As of right now they have

    * Obama: 78 - VT, ME, MA, CT, NJ, DE, MD, DC, IL
    * McCain: 34 - OK, KY, TN, SC

Florida is also leaning heavily Obama, 54% / 46% with 23% reporting.

Unfortunately the TV channels are ratings driving and try to outdo one another.

Exit polls are bordering on useless.
  • OK, what the hell... Both Harris (Houston) and Dallas (Dallas/Fort Worth) counties are showing HUGE advantages for Obama... 60/40 in Dallas with 500k votes and 54/45 in Houston with 700k votes.

But it still shows 0% reported, so I'm assuming this is the early vote tally.
  • Exit polls are bordering on useless.

I disagree. We learned during last election that exit polls cannot be used exclusively, but only Ohio was incorrectly called. That was, of course, the margin of victory. But that doesn't mean they are worthless. The early results were correct for 98% of all states.

I think we're seeing a more responsible press this time around as they still haven't called Indiana, Florida, Virginia, or South Carolina.
  • Uh oh!!!! There goes Ohio!!!!! GAME OVER!!!!

    PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!!!!
  • Not to mention that Indiana, Virginia, N. Carolina, and Florida are all still wide open to swing Obama.

Well, we won't ever hear from Robroy again so he can admit how delusional he's been. I'm sure he's already flipped the switch ala Christopher Walken in Blast From The Past.

I'm sure he'll find a way to blame those two black guys with the one nightstick for stealing McCain's blowout victory and turning it into a slobberknocker loss.
  • suck it robroy.

where's your mccain victory and your riots now beeiotch?
  • As of right now, my morning prediction that McCain would not win 200 EC votes is still at risk. If he sweeps all uncalled states, he could wring 205 votes out.

More likely though, he won't even get close to that. Obama likely takes every legitimate toss-up state, and we can peaceably move on. Has anyone else heard that most of our foreign allies were also favoring Obama 3-1?

I think there are two lasting stories from this election : America's return to being a partner on the world stage, and the exit of Baby Boomers from holding the reigns. I welcome them both.
  • I can't even tell you how thrilled I am right now. I thought he would win, but I didn't think it would be this big.

I'm sure Robroy is writing his manifesto as we speak.

For what's left, Alaska and Missouri will go McCain. I think Indiana, Montana and NC will go Obama though.
  • He has a lot of work ahead of him. I think he has the intellect to do it.

We now have a new spokesperson for Viagra. John McCain will repeat the Dole trail. Dole's wife lost her race as well.

I used to say in the early 1990's that I felt like a Jew in early 1930's germany. Today Hitler II was elected to the cheers of his faithful. Yes, the world will change. The businessmen will be using picks and shovels to build his autobahn. It is now the mid-30's.

    I am signing off.

The last few years were "interesting". The next year or two will be amazing! And not in the good way.

The world is a dangerous place. We are about to see just how dangerous.

This is no longer funny. I have said that in a democracy you get not only the government you want, but the government you deserve. Unfortunately, even those who didn't vote for him (like me) will suffer the consequences.

You are thrilled. We will see how long it lasts. The US as a free country is now a dead country walking. I did not think my countrymen could collectively be this stupid. Yes, I mean stupid. Ignorance was a big part of it, but stupidity pushed it over the edge. My biggest error was having more faith in the american people than they deserved. I was wrong. I mean REALLY wrong.

The good news is that the Lord's will is done regardless of the deeds of men. Israel wanted a king so he gave them a king. The US wanted obama so we got obama.

Let's see how that works out. Meanwhile, I now have much more important things to do.

Goodbye. I wish you the best. Seriously. I have no anamosity regarding anyone here. Sometimes lessons just have to be learned the hard way, and the world is almost certainly about to enter a new age - the hard way.
  • Never figured you were a bible thumper.
  • Don't go away on account of the election results.
  • The riots on the way home from Bellevue were rough. I made it through, barely.

Honestly, this night has really been bizarre. Last year I had a dream (one in your sleep) that I moved back to Indiana and was the election chairman for Hillary Clinton in the state, and "I" won the state for her, flipping Indiana's 11 EVs, and along with CO, she won the election 272-266. I woke up and thought "that's the most absurd dream I've ever had... there's no way in hell a Democrat can win in Indiana".

    Who knew.

Robroy, after this morning I honestly thought you had gone bats**t crazy, but likewise I hold no ill will. I hope the move to Kentucky pans out for you; you're moving to a very nice place with, as you noted, some absolutely fantastic roads. If you're looking for somewhere to get away from it all, have some space, it's hard to beat.

    That's an amazingly bizarre dream.

    Don't forget Florida in 2000.

CNN's exit polls from tonight missed Missouri and possibly Montana.

They're a greater liability than they are an asset. The polling data, which is a much more accurate reflection of the electorate as a whole, from the last month made it pretty clear the states Obama would likely win. The states which were not obvious (the roughly half dozen swings states) couldn't be called based on the exit polling info until a fairly high percentage of precincts had reported in. So the only value they have is to give something for the TV talking heads to talk about until enough precincts have reported to validate the polls.

In other words, they're useless. ;)
