Vacant houses in Seattle

edited June 2007 in Seattle Real Estate
Taking a walk around the south slope of Queen Anne, I've noticed several houses that are standing vacant. This is an area of large house with fantastic views, close to downtown, and the prices reflect it. So why are these houses vacant? One was gutted over a year ago and nothing since. Another is now looking for tenants, but is in bad shape. Saw another one yesterday which would be a great rental, but now sits with broken windows.

Is this the result of amateur developers? What's it like in your neighborhood?

  • I'm in Fremont and I can't say I've seen vacant houses. Although places for sale, especially townhomes and condos have been sitting on the market for quite awhile. Some have dropped prices, but they still seem pretty ridiculous (1/2 million for a townhome? not.). I have also noticed a fair amount of commercial real estate very centrally located for lease that has been sitting forever.
