Moving to the burbs, done with killer taxes, but where?

As my user name says so, I lean right politically. I'm a first gen immigrant, and an ivy league grad so before redneck comments start flying, please take a breath. I am getting tired of being taxed to death in Seattle, which probably means King county as a whole. We will be in my current $1 mil+ home in Ballard 5 years by the summer of 2018, so I'm thinking of cashing out and getting the hell out of Seattle. I like my truck, I like my outdoors, my sailing and my mountains so I want to stay in the PNW. What I don't want to do is subsidize someone else's life, nor do I want to live in a city that increasingly looks like a 70's Winnebago showroom.

So for any like minded souls here. What are the burb areas to consider? Bellevue/Redmond area is obviously out as it is little more then WA's version of Stepford in my mind. Decent space, decent schools, less taxes fewer bums.

I'll finish with the fact that yes, I did not spend significant time looking whether my goals are achievable by moving out of Seattle but staying in WA, so if you can correct me there, intelligently, sure go ahead.

  • Hi- I feel your pain, seemingly sharing everything from your hobbies to your political views. I live east of Issaquah, outside the city limits (and the RTA) but under the jurisdiction of King County. While we escape much of the RTA related nonsense the overall tax situation isn't much of an improvement. I have a good friend who lives in Bellevue whose home is appraised within $50k of mine, both in the same value range as yours. His property taxes are almost half of what mine are. The issue is the extremely high cost of fire protection coupled with a few other rural specific levies. I'd suggest you do some more homework before making a decision. North to Bellingham or across the sound might be better alternatives if you're determined to stay in the area.
