Rental trends

edited September 2007 in The Economy
Is there anywhere I can find information on whether rents are rising or falling? and by how much?

I'm specifically thinking of Redmond (10ish year old houses)

  • I don't think you're going to find any good source of data for SFH rentals. Checking Craigslist is probably your best bet for current conditions.

I live in Redmond a couple of miles north of MS, and from what I know, apartment rental rates continue to be strong (my neighbor paints interiors for several apartment complexes on the Eastside). Whether this is also true for SFHs, I can't say for sure.

One data point for you: house across the street from me, a 30-year-old rambler, 3/2 1400sf, rented immediately for $1800/mo. Wow. I went through it, and it's nothing to write home about either.
  • Thanks for the info.

Our house was listed for 8.5% more than it was advertised less than a year ago, and so far the ony people who came to see have seen 15 houses in the area in the last few days. As we suspected, it is likely too high and there is lots of choice for single family homes in the area.
