I was watching Scrubs tonight and the National Association or Realtor had an important message for me!

When you have a family it's always a good time to buy. (says the smiling family)
It's a great move up market! (says the realtor)
In this market there are a lot of options.
The interest rates are low.
It didn't make sense for us to spend the same amount of money renting something when we could own it. (smiling family)
Working with a Realtor took all the guess work out.
This is is the best market in years in terms of choice. (says the realtor)
interest rates are at historic lows, home choices have increased and prices are favorable. Every market is different. Call a Realtor today. (announcer)
If we didn't buy now, we would have missed the opportunity on this home. (Happy couple)

Things must be getting scary. Interesting watching them squirm.

  • That commercial is still being aired? I remember it from several months ago, but I didn't think anyone still had the cajones to air it these days........

If somebody is actually paying the same monthly payment for renting, as it is for owning a home (including mortgage, property taxes, insurance, utilities, etc), and plans to stay in the home for 7+ years --- this statement may actually turn out to be true.

But, the catch is that you can get a rental home for about 30-50% lesser (on a montly payment basis) than the cost of buying a home.
  • What do you expect when the RE "profession" is starting to go hungry?

They can't just come out and state the obvious....

IT IS ALWAYS A GREAT TIME FOR YOU TO FEED MY HUNGRY STOMACH!!!

Instead they use kids, puppy dogs, Property Ladder reruns, median price, and all sorts of other gimmicks to lure the suckers. P.T. Barnum's famous quote comes to mind....

Watching this thing unfold is like a watching a car crash (70mph car vs brick wall) in slow motion that you knew was coming 2 years ago but it has taken this long for the front bumper to hit the wall and it is only pushed in so far about 2 inches.

I would say it's more like you knew it was coming. The car was lined up, the camera crew showed, dummies were strapped in. My call is that the car has just taken off from the starting line. It aint hit nothing yet. Just wait until next summer.
