Sorry, 'everyone' is probably too strong a word. I'm sure their agent acting in their best interests was telling them that they couldn't afford that house, in addition to the broker.

Agreed, but when everyone is telling you that you should do it, can you blame them? I'm all for personal responsiblity, though....
