What happened to quoting feature?

I can't seem to figure out how do easily do quotes with the re-designed forum anymore. Has the option to choose to quote (and respond) to an earlier post disappeared? Now I find I have to resort to a lot of messy cutting and pasting to do any quotes.

It's still there. Just look in the upper right corner of the post you want to quote. The print is real small, so it may be difficult to see at first.

Ok, now I see it. I could have sworn I'd looked there earlier, but now I see it.
  • Ok, I have now figured out what the original issue is. It turns out you have to be logged in to see the "quote" option. Worse, if you choose to login once you are already browsing a particular thread you wish to comment on, the login will take you all the way back to the main topics page and you have to drill-down again.

The quote feature used to work differently, allowing you to click on the "quote" button even if you weren't logged in, and then it would ask you to login, and take you right to the comment page.

Is there any way we could get this simpler quote functionality back?
  • If you can't find an easier solution, it's easy to always be logged in. When you log in, check the login automatically button.

Another advantage of this topics which have been updated since the last time you read them (or are new) will be highlighted. That way you don't need to look through every topic's last updated time just to see what's new.

Hmm. This must be a difference in phpbb 3. Not sure if there's anything I can do about that without significant effort. I'll look around, but unfortunately I can't really make it a high priority right now.
  • simplest way... just learn the html code...

I guess this is what I'll do (i.e. have it automatically log me in). As a principal, though, I try to avoid having automatic log-ins to any web site, so as to make it a little more difficult for someone who every happens to mis-appropriate my PC to login places with my account.

That's a wise choice to make in general. Definitely don't automatically log in to your bank, stock market, or even email accounts.

It's good to balance risk and reward. So, if someone were to take over your account here, the worst they could do is modify some of your posts and add some new ones. Since you're using a synonym anyways, it's pretty low risk.
