Bathroom Repair

edited June 2008 in Everything Else
I am in the process of purchasing a seven unit apartment building in Fremont with a partner. (Don't worry everybody, it is cash flowing, and I am buying under market).

A couple of the showers have cracked tiles in the wall. I am considering re-tilling, or pulling it down and putting in a fiberglass surround.

Can anybody recommend a good bathroom guy that I could get a quote from for the work? I tried BathFitter already, but the pricing was crazy. I would like to talk with someone a little smaller.

  • I don't have personal recommendations since the guy I used is down in Yelm, but I would try http://www.mineeds.com/ There are tons of local contractors on there who will provide you with free bids. You can also look up their profile pages and if you like specific companies, you can request they send you a bid. I use this site for other household things and love it.
  • I could be wrong here, but the posts in this category by "mariaanderson" smell an awful lot like Astroturfing.

The freshly created account giving gushing praise to a totally unknown site (a site whose creators seem to be quite interested in web marketing)... It's difficult to see this as authentic.
  • I googled around for some phrases in her post. She seems legitimate. There is a detailed profile under a different name on another website that matches the information in her other posts on this forum. There a just a few similar testimonials that appear hand-written in each case.
  • Again, I'm not saying I'm 100% certain about it, but FYI, astroturfing is usually a fairly sophisticated operation. As far as I know most astroturfing is done by hand, rather than being automated. The uniqueness of these specific posts don't really speak to whether or not they are part of an astroturfing campaign.

    Just sayin'.
  • Okay, I'm not sure why I'm being accused of being spam. You asked for a recommendation, and I gave one. I've used this site a few times and think it's a great site. I just thought it might help. Sorry.

It's only because your post looked "advertisement-ish" and you have a very low post count. The general spam pattern looks something like:

    1) New account posts advertisement looking content to every board on the forum.
    2) Account disappears never to post again.
  • I apologize for looking like spam. I decided to join this site and one of the first posts I saw was looking for a recommendation. http://www.mineeds.com/ is a site that I do love to recommend, but that's only because I love the whole concept of it and have had good experiences. My plan was not to post ads for businesses and then leave. I apologize for making some feel that that was my intent.

No need to apologize. The best thing to do is just contribute relevant information on threads you find interesting. Do that for a while, and I doubt anyone will accuse you of spam. There's some other post floating around that describe (I think succinctly) just why people jumped to the conclusion they did.
