The view from here

Step out my back door and look North: Almost-completed townhomes.

Look West: Townhomes just getting underway.

Hooray for progress!

  • The view from my house - flipper to my left. Renovator to my right. Investor looking to buy dead center.

The view from where I'm staying - serene lake Washington and the Cascades.
  • No one care, put up pictures!
  • They're going to tear down all those trees (in pic 2)? :(

It was "going to" on Tuesday when I posted that picture.

    Now it's "already did."

  • 1. Cut down native trees.
    2. Build condo/SFH/apartment/subdivision
    3. Plant non-native trees
    4. Profit!
  • Actually they will be leaving out step 4. This particular project (in pic 2 and 3, not pic 1) is a non-profit "low income" housing developer. They paid nearly $1 million for the land over two years ago, and are just now getting around to actually doing something.

They build the townhomes/condos then sell them to people with some sort of legal conditions on the deed that they can't really ever be sold at true market rate, but have to remain affordable for low-income families in perpetuity.

Too bad; now the buyers' employers can pay less than a market rate, making it harder for other workers who don't have subsidized housing to compete. Sure would be better for society if builders were required to build some cheaper housing available to any buyer, rather than low-income housing that is like a lottery.
  • Oh but don't you see, they have to save the poor people from the terrible travails of renting.
  • I work at MS, wife works at Boeing. I guess we qualify for this low-income housing. :D
  • I can see 12 cranes from my deck.

Let me get a couple beers in me and see if I can't make that 24
