    A good friend did an internship in Manhattan this summer and rented a crappy rundown 1.5 br apt 2 blocks from Time Square for $3000/mo in cash. They had to pay the entire $11,000 in cash when they moved in. They saw the add on craigslist and were signing the papers 2 hours later (thats how tight the mkt is there). Obviously the owner wasnt paying taxes on the cash in hand...If the owner was renting legally they estimated it would be ~$3500/mo.
