Dream Homes
I had a dream several years ago that I had purchased a big box retail building that had closed its doors for business and had set it up as my residence. It was one giant room. In one corner was the kitchen. In another corner was an entertainment area. Another area was set up with bookshelves like a library. I had movable partitions to cut down on drafts and noise.
So CompUSA is closing down most of its stores. I've heard Best Buy is closing many of its stores. Wal-Mart's sales are flat -- presumably because the same people who shop at Wal-Mart also are sub-prime loan customers.
The past few weeks I kept hearing noise about how commercial real estate was the next big thing. If the sub-prime implosion sets up a strong recession, I wonder if commercial real estate could drop enough to make my dream a reality.
(not that it is really a goal of mine -- although I knew someone once whose grandparents purchased and lived in a high school that had been shut down due to dropping population in the area -- complete with the huge cafeteria kitchen and gymnasium).
