  • http://sports.espn.go.com/stations/player?context=podcast&id=3976937 Podcast between writers Bill Simmons and Chuck Klosterman. Partly focused on sports writing, but mostly what they feel about the reasons behind the "death" of newspapers.
  • Thanks for the great update. And what an unappealing new website Mr Dunn has created. I wonder where his shrewd business instincts will take him next?
  • Jillayne - you are a class act. You show integrity and intelligence. However, based on Mack's comments on the P-I blog, he appears to be lacking in both these areas. You were wise to caution him against his attacks, but I don't think he's able to un…
  • Please, everyone, shed some tears for another NY lawyer accused of stealing millions from hedge funds, who the judge wouldn't release on bail: Mr. Dreier, the owner and founder of Dreier L.L.P., which employs 250 lawyers, was charged in a complain…
  • This is a sales technique ala Harvard business advise. And studies have shown that in many cases, the more people pay, the more value they ascribe to their purchase. Money plays a funny role in the purchase process: it anchors perceived value. If y…
  • While Quadrant may be walking away, D. R. Horton is auctioning off many of its new properties in the Puget Sound area on Dec. 7th. Condos to SFR, starting bids are half-off the current sales prices. It'll be interesting to see the data after the auc…
  • I've heard it...if you borrow $100,000 from the bank, it's your problem. If you borrow $100,000,000 then it's the bank's problem. And the new varient; if you borrow $1,000,000,000 it's the government's problem. Make that if you borrow $1,0…
  • Hmmm, how do they do it, hmmm.... From their webpage: "A professional driver delivers your new Crown Home to your site in a timely manner. Reliable delivery with proper placement is one of the most important steps in the home set-up process.
  • Fact is, little can be done to reduce CO2 emissions regardless of their impact on the environment. CO2 isn't just an incidental result of human activity that you can get rid of with smokestack scrubbers. Rather, it's an inherent product of the combu…

  • I used the free coupon in Sunday's Seattle Times to try MickeyD's iced mocha. It was so bad that I ended up dumping it down the drain. I can't imagine that their lattes are any better. Starbucks rocks by comparison.
  • Speaking of scaremongering, check out recent "tenant terror" arrests: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/04/23/BAIU10ALDM.DTL&feed=rss.bayarea
  • Falling prices are a good thing, not doom and gloom. It's "doom and gloom" to the people who earn less commission - those crazy real estate professionals.
  • Agreed. Perfectfire hit the troll target with a bullseye. People who wantneed to buy can easily get all the moral support they need from most local real estate agents. Just the other day at an open house I was given a paper with this sage advice:…
  • I get it Markor, your Field of Dreams philosophy is 'if you build it, they will come,' or something along that line. It's the buildings that create business, not the other way around. Good luck with that. My neighborhood has more sales signs and no…
  • Here's the follow up story with the auction results: http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_7175582?source=most_viewed "I'm feeling my worst fears right now," said Cantrell, who estimated that the auction devalued his neighbors' homes by roughly $200,000…
  • I agree with you 100%. Comcast's new software is NOT IMPROVED. We had a neighborhood outage of all Comcast services (TV, phone, Internet) that took Comcast techs a full week to solve. (Yes, it was very frustrating, but that's another issue). One of…
  • So LRH should start an on-the-side real estate "support group" to help his coworker get the best deal? Whatever! OddVan, you may have faith that there's no wrong time to purchase real estate and that savvy people can always find good deals. And m…
  • The way I see it, only a few posters like Baby Blue question the housing bubble. The disagreement is about the extent of the damage. Inquiring minds will disagree - but don't take it personally. Sit back, relax, watch the show and chat. No need f…
  • Lizzy Rhodes will not report this, as her sources tell her that Seattle real estate is special and should be in a completely separate category from the rest of the county. Our house values are immune to the claims of these John Burns people because …
  • Grivetti- I think this is the link you wanted to share: http://www.seattleweekly.com/columns/284118
  • Interesting quote Jillayne. Thanks for the local LO meeting update. It's likely that we'll see some fallout in the local real estate market because of these changes.
  • I checked and he's still posting on his business' forum http://www.djangobooks.com/forum/, so he's still around. Maybe he senses the tide has turned and he doesn't want to come out to play with the bubble crowd? Didn't he have some bets on this …
  • How about Deborah Arends, the agent who argued on the 60 Minutes report about Redfin that she needs her 6% commision? In her immortal words: "I think what's happened is a lot of expenses have gone up, everything from postage to gas, which affect re…
  • But Shug, you can't claim any of that equity unless you either sell the house take out a loan. Puts you in a quandary, doesn't it? If you decide to take out the home equity loan, you have to put money into fees, etc. You may feel richer with your…
  • Shug, I believe that most homeowners typically sell over the same time frame (5-10 years), so what's the difference? The difference is that if people buy now, they're likely to lose money whereas if they chose to rent, they'll be able to earn …
  • Shug, Why do you believe that landlords can evict tenants at any time? Landlords have to adhere to their signed leases, legal documents, just like the tenants must. They aren't able to capriciously evict tenants. Real estate prices have increa…
  • Ditto Hawaii. Rents went down as house prices rose, then increased right before the real estate market flattened, which seemed to happen overnight.
